Free vape tracker vs paid app: what should you pay for?
By the OffPuff team · September 17, 2026
A vape tracker only works while you can keep using it. Before starting a free trial or subscription, check what happens when the trial ends and what remains available without payment.
Three ways to track
Notes, spreadsheet or tally counter
This costs nothing and gives you full control. It works well for a daily total or session count. The tradeoff is manual setup: charts, reminders and corrections are yours to maintain.
Free tier of a dedicated app
A useful free tier should cover the basic loop: log, view a recent total and keep the record. Check whether the app limits history, widgets, goals, export or access after a trial.
Paid tracking app
Payment can make sense for lower-friction logging, longer history, richer pattern views, export, sync or cross-device access. It should buy convenience and clearer access to your own data, not vague promises.
Questions to ask before subscribing
- Can I keep logging after the trial?
- Which history remains visible for free?
- Can I correct a missed or mistaken log?
- Can I export or delete my data?
- Does the price shown renew weekly, monthly or yearly?
- Are a widget, watch app or shortcuts included?
- Does the product explain how it handles vaping data?
Take a screenshot of the offer screen if the price or renewal period is unclear. App Store listings can contain several in-app purchase entries from current and older offers, so the checkout screen is the final source for the price you would accept.
OffPuff's planned model
OffPuff is being built, and no app is available yet. The planned free tier will not lock someone out of basic tracking mid-attempt. Planned paid features focus on convenience and visibility: Apple Watch, widget and Siri logging, pattern and trigger views, weekly history/export and private sync.
Planned US pricing is $14.99 per month or $49.99 per year. That price and feature split may change before launch; the purchase screen will need to show the final terms.
The simplest decision rule
Start with the least complicated tracker you will use consistently. Pay only when a specific paid feature removes friction you have actually felt. A longer feature list is not automatically a better fit.

FAQ
Can I track vape puffs for free?
Yes. A tally counter, notes app or spreadsheet can record puffs or sessions. Some dedicated apps also offer free access, but the limits vary.
What should never disappear behind a trial?
At minimum, check whether you can continue logging and view or recover the data you already entered. The answer depends on the app's current terms.
Is OffPuff available now?
No. OffPuff is being built. Its free tier, paid features and pricing are planned rather than live.
